Some days are better than others

This certainly isn't news to anyone with a pulse, but it's even more true when you're home with the kids.  And while the kids may not like school as much as you like them having to go, it does buy some much needed time each day to get things done that normally can't be done with the kids, their friends, their toys and their issues all hanging around.

My kids went back to school a couple of weeks ago and I am just about to hit my rhythm with their schedules.  Their school schedules anyway.  My oldest just started travel hockey again so we get to lump that into the weekly demands on our time and try to find a rhythm with that added into the mix.  Along with my daughter's gymnastics, her time at the equestrian center and my youngest son's in house hockey league.

The secret to surviving is to have a plan for each and every day.  Just like any other job, you have your daily to-do list of things you'd rather not do, (which is why they pay you to do them at work) and at home it's no different.  There are dishes to pre-scrub, laundry to sort and do, counters to clean off, and floors, carpets, mirrors, countertops and toilets that all demand at least some attention each week, if not more often.  And let's not forget you might want to eat at some point during the day so you get to add to your workload, on the off chance that you didn't have enough to do already.

The main key is to stay ahead of the workload by consistently doing a little bit each day.  If you schedule wisely, you can have your house looking tip-top for the weekend so you can enjoy your time as a family instead of having to use your weekends to catch up on everything you didn't do during the week.  It doesn't always work that nicely around here, but on those weeks where we are "on schedule" it's certainly a lot more fun come Friday night and on into the rest of the weekend.  I'd much rather take the family skiing than do laundry, clean the house & mow the yard.

Welcome to my cartoon life...

I am a happily married father of 3 that has been a stay at home dad (s@hd) for the last 5 years.  I used to be a salesman, but now I actually work for a living.  The only difference being that my hours are much longer now and the "pay" is much more subjective.

This blog will let you know what's new and or recycled in my world and my warped perspectives on whatever I happen to be thinking of at the moment.  It won't always be about being a s@hd, primarily because just because that is my life now, doesn't mean it's the only thing in my life.  I'll share stories of when I was young and the stupid things we used to do in the name of fun back in those dark, pre-electronic everything times.  And who knows, you might even learn something along the way...about me, or even yourself.  Either way, I hope you'll be entertained, if nothing else.

As far as parenting goes, feel free to offer advice, comments, questions or whatever you deem appropriate.  I often tell my kids that I know a little bit about a lot of things, but I know a lot less about being a parent.  I'm mainly trying to make sure my kids get to enjoy their childhood while they're still in it, instead of spending their time trying to re-live it later when they have enough money to truly enjoy it like their dad.

I might even wax poetic about things in the news like politics or religion, or why the two should never mix.  Or why stupidity and marketing win more popular votes than intelligence and common sense.  And if you think intelligence and common sense are the same, you're probably a little lacking in both.

But hey, that's just my opinion.  We'll get to intellectual snobbery later.

Peace & Powder
(Oh, and by "powder" I mean snow.  You see I live in Colorado and love to ski.  The other salutation should be self-explanatory.)
